About this place
Doteyaki is the dish to try first at Genbu, and one that diners mention time and again. One lunchtime guest said the miso flavour was not too strong and that the meat had been simmered until tender and easy to eat. Another enjoyed it over rice, almost like a rice bowl. It makes a tempting accompaniment to a set meal, but is also worth pairing with rice in its own right.
Some diners say the lunchtime set meals are available into the evening. Guests who had sashimi or simmered fish alongside their meals have also commented on the generous side dishes and the option of extra rice. For a substantial midday meal, consider a set; for something lighter, the menu also lists a tuna tekka-don, a doteyaki rice bowl and ochazuke (rice in broth).
In the evening, a platter of seven oden items makes a good centrepiece, with choices including egg, daikon and beef tendon simmered in dashi. You can order individual pieces to suit your taste, or share a seven-piece kushikatsu platter with items such as prawn, pork, squid and lotus root. Sashimi and nigiri sushi are also available, offering options from a small dish with drinks to a seafood-focused meal.
Genbu in Kit Tatsumi is described as suitable for solo diners as well as groups, with options ranging from lunch to late-night meals.
